Agra Fort

Agra FortAgra Fort appears on the bank of river Yamuna as a crescent shaped structure, massive in magnitude and intricate in its wonderful design. The fort is not even a couple of kilometers away from the Taj Mahal. During the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar, the mammoth task of building the Agra Fort was undertaken. It was, however, during the reign of Shah Jahan that most of the Agra Fort was completed. The fort has some of the finest structures of Mughal architecture. The Diwan-i-Am is an extremely beautiful pillared hall meant for public hearing by the emperor. It contains beautiful mosques like the Nagina mosque and the Mina mosque.

There are several buildings in the Agra Fort that are made of pure marble. You will get the breathtaking view of the river Yamuna and Taj Mahal from the balcony of Agra Fort. You will also find many small and well maintained gardens inside the fort. It is said that Shah Jahan is said to have died in Musamman Burj. From the marble balcony of this tower you will definitely have the best view of the Taj Mahal.

Agra is only 204 km away from Delhi and is easily accessible by rail. It only takes a couple of hours by train to reach Agra from Delhi. By road, Agra is reachable in about 4 hours. There are many places to visit in Agra other than the Agra Fort. So when you are in Delhi, do not let the opportunity to visit Agra slip out of your grasp.
