Famous Temples

Famous Temples in MathuraThe city of Mathura and Vrindavan has quite a few very beautiful temples. Some are simple and chaste but has a long history associated with it. Others have some of the finest and intricate designs in walls and pillars. People who come for a tour of Delhi make it a point to visit Vrindavan and Mathura to see the trademark Hindu temple architecture. At Vrindavan there is a temple called Kalya Ghata. It is said that Lord Krishna killed Kalya, the monster of a snake that lived in this river. Today it is merely a lake as Yamuna has altered course and except during the monsoon, what remains is a lake.

The Krishna Balaram Temple is arguably the most popular temple of Vrindavan. Devotees from all over the world come here and pray. There is truly an international ambience in the place. Maintained by International Society of Krishna Consciousness, the temple maintains a very high level of regulation and cleanliness. The Radha-Madan Mohan temple was built at a time when the place was full of forest. The original idol was taken to Rajasthan to keep it from harms way during the reign of Aurangzeb when the fanatic and intolerant Mughal soldiers used to destroy everything that had any remote connection with Hinduism. Today the replica of the deity is worshipped and the temple has evolved as one of the main crowd pullers.

The Jaipur Temple is one of the famous temples in Vrindavan. It is renowned for its unparallel workmanship on sandstone and intricate design on marble. The opulent grandeur of the temple has for ages captivated tourist throughout the world. The architectural splendor is truly reminiscent of the Mughal art. The technological advancement in terms of construction can very well be estimated from the fact that huge sandstones were used for the construction of this temple and there can be no better example of perfection than this.

Well connected by road and rail, Vrindavan although a city, has a very much the feel of a countryside where peace and quietness is present without fail. Exploring the quiet beauty of the place is in itself a very satisfying experience.
